Jeff Crosby left home at 17 to pursue a life of original music making. He hit a songwriting turning point at 22 in Los Angeles, having written two songs for Sons of Anarchy. A high-energy guitar savant, he’s played for Widespread Panic and Reckless Kelly in addition to writing with and for Willy Braun (Reckless), The Mother Hips and more. ArrowCreek and Reno residents know him as a brilliant guitar player, songwriter and performer. AND he gives GREAT show!

The Sugar Thieves don't spend much time worrying about genre lines. Since forming in Phoenix in 2006, they've built their sound from the great American melting pot—Delta blues, country, gospel, folk, jazz and rock & roll—turning it into a high-energy roots show that feels both wonderfully old-school and completely alive.

The Sugar Thieves have toured throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe and have shared bills with artists including Taj Mahal, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams and Robert Cray. They've won Arizona's statewide blues competition three times and earned People's Choice honors at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

Their secret may be that they still think of themselves primarily as a live band. Moore has said the real experience is feeling the energy the five musicians put forward onstage. That's exactly why we're bringing them to For the Song—and exactly why the intimate Vista Room Music Club should be a terrific place to experience them.

The Novelists have built a devoted following through a rare combination of exceptional musicianship, rich vocal harmonies, and masterful storytelling. Their songs blur the lines between folk, rock, Americana, and indie music, creating a sound that is both familiar and uniquely their own.

Known for sharing lead vocal duties and weaving intricate harmonies throughout their performances, the band approaches songwriting as storytellers first. Each song feels like a chapter from a larger narrative—filled with memorable characters, emotional depth, and moments that linger long after the final note.

While their roots trace back to Reno and the Sierras, their music has carried them to audiences throughout the West and across the country. Whether performing in intimate listening rooms, historic theaters, or festival settings, The Novelists are renowned for creating the kind of connection that turns first-time listeners into lifelong fans.

“…the very essence of Nether Hour: raw, untamed, and deeply rooted in Austin’s vibrant music culture. This forthcoming record feels like a midnight drive with every twist revealing something new — a searing solo, a thumping bassline, or an unstoppable beat. These guys are the real deal, blending Southern grit with the ability to shift from bluesy riffs to swampy grooves in a heartbeat. With chemistry forged on countless stages, their soundscapes are as unpredictable as a Texas storm, yet the Nether Hour’s spirit is unmistakable throughout.”

The Kruse Brothers combine soaring harmonies, emotionally direct songwriting, and rock-and-roll energy into performances that feel both polished and alive. Brothers Chandler and Miles Kruse bring classically trained voices to the band’s harmony-heavy sound, giving the live show a level of vocal precision and power that immediately separates them from many of their peers.

The brothers combine traditional country themes with a modern desert-rock atmosphere shaped by artists like Chris Stapleton, the Eagles, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings. Their music leans heavily on “blood harmonies,” gritty guitar work, and Western imagery, creating a style that mixes dancehall energy with emotional storytelling rooted in the American Southwest.

“But don’t expect music like the Everly Brothers cooing about teenage love here. You get the sense these Phoenix boys have been to the grave of Waylon Jennings in nearby Mesa, and maybe even poured one out for ol’ Hoss. This is some honky-tonkin’ music that isn’t afraid to get a little rowdy.”

Already touring nationally, this soul-pop and R&B band has appeared on stages ranging from the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage in Washington, D.C., to Rhythm & Roots and other regional festivals across the country. The Wisconsin-based group blends soul, R&B, pop, and a little bit of groove-heavy rock into something that feels both polished and loose at the same time—rhythm-forward music with real emotional lift behind it. “Led by TAE’s powerful, deeply expressive vocals“ (Iowa PBS) the band has built a reputation as a live act that can shift quickly from intimate and reflective to full-on joyful release.

They don’t approach soul music as retro revivalism. There are touches of modern indie-pop, groove-based R&B, and even a little communal, almost gospel-like uplift in parts of the set. The result feels young, alive, and genuinely fun ….

Dubbed "the future of classic country" by Saving Country Music, Kimmi Bitter is painting a whole new tapestry that drapes golden-era Countrypolitan with coastal desert twang. Drawing comparisons from Patsy Cline to a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack, her sound echoes the spirit of early 60’s California—sun-soaked, sharp-dressed in mod tones, and just rebellious enough to drift left of the traditional country dial. A rising force in the underground Americana scene, she’s capturing attention with her debut album Old School (2024), which hit the Top 25 Americana Album Radio Chart and earned eight nominations, including wins for Song of the Year (2024 & 2025) and Best Country Album (2025) at the San Diego Music Awards. The album also topped at No.1 the Alt-Country Specialty Charts for four consecutive weeks, and her live performance was recently regarded as "one of the biggest takeaways" from Austin's SXSW.

“What elevates Uncle Lucius above the pack—is how they’ve brought Southern charm back to the jam scene. This is contemporary Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd, with lyrics that resonate deep into your bones. It’s spiritual yet catchy as hell, and the guitar work will leave you breathless.”

Take “Holy Roller,” the epic jam that doesn’t just take you to church—it takes you to heaven. Mike Carpenter and Doug Strahan trade solos that would make Duane Allman proud, while Grossman transports the whole thing on organ. But here’s what makes it resonate: the song basks in glory while simultaneously understanding the dark side of religion. That’s the Uncle Lucius magic—they can make you dance and think at the same time.

Colorado singer-songwriter, Daniel Rodriguez, turns to his acoustic guitar for memorable, melodic hooks to accompany his poetic and contemplative folk songs. Boulder Weekly refers to Rodriguez’s voice as “a timeless folk voice, deep and hearty, weathered but comforting.”

With over a decade under his belt as one of the founding members and lead songwriters of the transcendental folk band, Elephant Revival, Rodriguez is well-versed in the Americana tour circuit. Before going on hiatus, after their third headlining Red Rocks show in May 2018, Elephant Revival had released six albums and performed countless shows and festivals across the nation as well as overseas.

Needing to fill the musical void that might have become following Elephant Revival’s hiatus announcement, Rodriguez immediately headed out on tour as a solo artist. He’s been chosen as main support for bands such as Fruition, Mandolin Orange, Josh Ritter, Birds of Chicago, and John Craigie in addition to being added to numerous festivals like Jam Cruise, and WinterWonderGrass.

Daniel Rodriguez released his debut collection of songs as an EP titled Your Heart The Stars The Milky Way on February 15, 2019.

There’s something about Marty O’Reilly’s music that feels like it’s always been here— on The Voice, Reba McIntyre complimented his “Joe Cocker-like performance.” Snoop Dogg said “You could win The Voice. You were that good.” His voice is raw and real, his guitar playing gritty and soulful. It’s music that doesn’t try to be anything other than honest, and that’s exactly why it hits so hard.

He pulls inspiration from the roots of Americana; his sound references folk greats like Woody Guthrie, blues legends like Howlin’ Wolf,  gospel pioneers like Sister Rosetta Thorpe, and master storytellers like Tom Waits. It’s a sound that captivates and connects audiences, and leaves them wanting more.

His live shows aren’t just concerts—they’re cathartic experiences. One moment it’s soft and haunting, the next it’s wild and electric. The kind that stay with you long after the lights come up.

Over the years, Marty has built a dedicated following through relentless touring and staying true to his craft. He’s shared the stage with artists like Shakey Graves, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Sarah Jarosz, and Alice O’Donovan and played at festivals like Bottlerock, SXSW, and High Sierra Music Festival, but his focus has always been on making music that means something.

Jason Eady is a songwriter’s songwriter—an artist whose work has quietly earned deep respect across the Americana, folk, and Texas country worlds without courting the mainstream spotlight. Raised in Mississippi and artistically forged in Texas, Eady brings together the emotional depth of the Deep South with the independence and grit of the Texas songwriting tradition. His songs favor truth over flash, trusting nuance, melody, and restraint to carry their weight.

Over the course of two decades, Eady has built a catalog defined by consistency and craft. His writing is intimate without being insular, literate without being precious—songs about love, regret, endurance, and grace that unfold patiently and reward close listening. That discipline has not gone unnoticed by his peers. Rodney Crowell has praised Eady for “writing songs that know exactly what they are and never pretend to be more,” adding that his work reflects “a deep respect for the tradition and the courage to stand quietly inside it.”

Eady’s reputation extends well beyond genre boundaries. Willie Nelson has called him “the kind of writer you want to listen to twice—once for the story, and again for how well it’s told.” Fellow songwriters often point to Eady’s ability to balance emotional weight with melodic ease, a rare combination that gives his songs both immediacy and longevity.

That balance has made him a trusted voice within the Texas and Americana communities. Robert Earl Keen once described Eady as “an artist who never cuts corners—every line earns its place,” while Gillian Welch has admired his “clarity of intention,” noting that “his songs feel lived in, not written for effect.”

In an era driven by speed and spectacle, Jason Eady’s career stands as a quiet counterargument. His work reminds listeners—and fellow artists—that patience, humility, and devotion to the song remain powerful forces. The result is music that doesn’t shout for attention, but endures long after the final note fades.

Raul Midón “writes and plays music that defies easy classification, combining soulful tenor vocals with a prodigious guitar technique influenced by flamenco and other Latin styles, jazz, R&B, and favorite singer/songwriters like Joni Mitchell and James Taylor. He’s also known for his uncanny “mouth trumpet” solos, a technique he perfected while a student in the University of Miami’s jazz program. Since then, he has worked with an impressive list of jazz and pop icons including Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, and Bill Withers.”
